Understanding light, from every perspective
A concrete example of this approach was the recent conference ‘Light, Standards and Design’, hosted by the Department of Engineering at the Alma Mater Studiorum – University of Bologna.
It provided a forum for professionals in the sector to discuss the evolution of lighting design and the increasingly close relationship between regulations, technology and practical application.
In this context, 3F Filippi explored the topic of interior lighting and the application of UNI EN 12464-1, drawing on its experience in interpreting regulatory requirements and translating them into practical lighting design choices.
Because understanding a standard is essential. But the real value lies in the ability to grasp its implications for the project: from the required performance levels to glare control, from visual comfort to light distribution, right through to the specific characteristics of the environment and the people who use it.
Three areas of expertise, a single body of knowledge

3F Filippibrings to the Group extensive experience in technical and high-performance lighting, developed through its in-depth understanding of applications, regulations and the requirements of complex environments: industry, offices, retail, healthcare, infrastructure, education and sport.
Targettibroadens this perspective through the culture of architectural lighting, where technology, optics, the perception of space and integration with architecture become part of a single design language.
Duralampcomplements its wealth of expertise with specialist knowledge of light sources and lighting technology solutions, with a particular focus on flexibility, efficiency and ease of application.
These diverse areas of expertise do not exist in isolation, but contribute to the development of a shared body of knowledge.

It is precisely in the convergence of these areas of expertise that one of 3F Group’s core values emerges.
A lighting design project may require high technical performance, whilst at the same time demanding precise optical control. It may need to comply with stringent regulatory requirements whilst also complementing the architecture. It may call for efficiency, durability, light quality, manageability and flexibility.
There is therefore no single perspective from which to view light.
It is necessary to understand the technology, know how to control it, be familiar with the regulations governing its application and, above all, interpret the spaces and the needs of those who use them.
It is here that the various areas of expertise within the 3F Group become a shared asset.
Knowledge as part of the 3F Group’s culture
Research, training and dialogue with the world of design are therefore an essential part of our work.
Universities, professionals, lighting designers, architects, engineers and technology partners are key stakeholders with whom we share experiences and develop new knowledge.
Events such as the one at the University of Bologna are therefore not merely opportunities for technical exploration, but reflect our understanding of our role in the lighting sector: to contribute to the dissemination of the culture of light and, through dialogue, to continue broadening our expertise.
Because understanding light means knowing how to observe it from different perspectives.
3F Filippi, Targetti and Duralamp: specialist expertise, shared knowledge.
